On the basis of the IOM recommendations, the WIC food packages were revised in 2007 to align them with the 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans and current infant feeding practice guidelines of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). Recent WIC changes launched a natural experiment that has the potential to affect dietary outcomes among millions of economically disadvantaged families.
